Mediation is a place where dispute and resolution meet. It’s where people involved in a fight can safely, confidentially, and thoroughly, work through what matters most to them. It’s not magic; it’s a process, a process by which a neutral facilitator allows for a full understanding and analysis by all of all viewpoints. Mediation is confidential, freeing up the parties to speak their minds, hear the other’s view, and investigate all the options. The goal is not to ignore or diminish the conflict itself, but to engage it. Parties are encouraged to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the various positions, and to develop a full understanding of the conflict’s components. They can then identify their best and worst options for solving the problem, and reach an agreement which satisfies all involved.
